Egypt will host the 2025 World Squash Junior Championships, following ratification by the WSF board.

The championships, which will be contested at New Cairo’s Black Ball Sporting Club from July 20-01 August, will feature men’s and women’s individual and team events, following record entries at this year’s edition in Houston, USA, which was the first World Juniors to feature simultaneous men’s and women’s team championships.

Egypt is a powerhouse in the modern game with a thriving grassroots scene. The North African nation completed a historic clean sweep at this year’s World Juniors, as Amina Orfi and Mohamed Zakaria won the individual events and the women’s and men’s squads won the team events.

Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, said: “We greatly appreciate the World Squash Federation’s decision to select Egypt as the host for the World Junior Squash Championships, both for individuals and teams. We take this opportunity to reaffirm Egypt’s full readiness to host such prestigious events, and we are committed to offering all possible facilities and support to ensure the success of this tournament.

“We also express our immense joy at the inclusion of squash in the 2028 Olympic Games and extend our congratulations to the World Squash Federation for this significant achievement in securing squash’s place in the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.”

“We are working tirelessly to promote squash across Egypt, with a special focus on nurturing young talent and offering a range of programs to support their development. We are committed to maintaining Egypt’s position as a global hub and a leading force in the world of squash.”

WSF President Zena Wooldridge said: “It’s a really exciting time for squash and very appropriate to be heading back to Egypt following the highly successful 2022 Women’s World Team Championship, and to Black Ball as an ideal venue for the World Juniors.

“We know Egypt is crazy about squash, unrivalled in the world, and no doubt the Egyptian home crowd will be anticipating their young performers following in the footsteps of the many Egyptian legends of our sport. Young players’ ambitions are also now fuelled by the prospect of a future Olympics, further raising the bar on the incredible standard of junior squash.

“Black Ball is a great venue with a world-famous pedigree, hosting national championships and top-class professional events. My thanks to Minister Dr Ashraf Sobhy for his ongoing support for squash, to Black Ball CEO Mohamed Raef, Egyptian Squash Federation President Assem Khalifa and the teams behind each of them.”

Assem Khalifa said: “On behalf of Egyptian Squash, I thank World Squash for selecting Egypt as the host of the 2025 World Squash Junior Championships and to Dr. Ashraf Sobhy and Mohamed Raef for their support.

“Egyptian Squash is committed to giving our passionate pool of junior talents every opportunity to success in our sport and having another major event on home court will no doubt prove to be a very special moment for them and serve as inspiration for future generations.”

Mohamed Raef said: “We did not hesitate for a moment to approach the World Squash Federation, supported and sponsored by Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, the Minister of Youth and Sports, in order to secure Egypt’s right to host and organize the 2025 World Junior Squash Championships, both individual and team events. This prestigious event will take place at the Black Ball Club courts in New Cairo, a venue that stands as one of the most distinguished landmarks in the world of squash. Since the opening of Black Ball Club, we have been committed to making it a resort that brings together both professional and amateur squash players, while serving as a cradle for many local and international tournaments, whether for juniors or professionals.

“I am reminded of a phrase that I have always admired, which describes Black Ball Club perfectly: ‘The Egyptian Temple of Squash,’ a title inspired by the grandeur of ancient Egyptian temples.

“The Black Ball team is composed of passionate professionals who are dedicated to delivering this event in a manner worthy of the sport of squash and the esteemed status of Egypt, which has earned a distinguished and prominent place on the global stage in recent years. All participants and squash enthusiasts will be warmly welcomed, and we will spare no effort to ensure their comfort and satisfaction.”
