Singaporean squash sensation Kareena Sashikumar has been identified as one of 25 sports stars to watch in 2025 by The Straits Times, Singapore’s leading newspaper.
Kareena was born into a family of squash fanatics: her father was a state player for Penang, Malaysia and her two brothers are highly rated talents, with Kareena’s older brother Jackrish Sashikumar also representing the Singapore national junior team.
10-year-old Kareena took the Singapore squash world by storm in 2024, picking up six titles: The Southeast Asian Junior Individual Championships, the Lion City Junior Open, the Penang Junior Open, the Korea Junior Open – which she won alongside Jaskrish – and the Kuala Lumpur Junior Open before rounding off the year in style with victory on home court in December’s Singapore Junior Open.
Of Kareena, The Straits Times noted the growing expectations around her, speculating on what the young star could achieve if she continues her upward trajectory.
