Squash and education non-profit Khelshala has celebrated its 15th anniversary by building a new kitchen on its site in Chandigarh, India, which will provide three meals per week for the community of underserved children it serves.
Khelshala was founded in 2009 in Village Attawa, Chandigarh, by former Director of Squash at Harvard University Satinder Bajwa, who started the non-profit in order to provide education and exercise opportunities for an underserved community.
Since its founding, Khelshala has helped over 500 children, with many going on to graduate high school and university. Besides their academic achievements, over 50 current or former Khelshala participants have played in SRFI junior tournaments, 15 have gone on to be National-Level players, and three have qualified as WSF-certified coaches.
Now, in its 15th year, Khelshala will be able to further expand its work, with the new kitchen set to provide nutritious meals to the 75 children Khelshala supports each year thanks to a donation from the Britford Bridge Trust.
