Squash will feature at the World Transplant Games (WTG) 2025, which will take place from 17-24 August in Dresden, Germany, following confirmation from the World Transplant Games Federation.
The summer WTG is a biennial multi-sport Games that is open to any athlete who has received a solid organ transplant, donors and family members of donors.
Since their inception in 1978 in Portsmouth, UK, the Games have been held all over the world, including in Australia, Singapore, South Africa, Argentina, and the United States. This year’s Games in Dresden will bring together around 2,500 participants from 60 nations to compete in 17 different sports.
More than just a sporting event, the WTG are the largest global platform raising awareness for organ donation and transplantation. The Games inspire people worldwide by demonstrating the strength, determination, and fitness that can be achieved post-transplant. It is a celebration of life, where transplant recipients, donors, and their families come together to share their experiences and achievements.
Squash will be one of the featured sports at WTG2025, with 60 players expected to compete. The matches will take place on August 20th in the state-of-the-art squash courts located in the grandstand section of the newly built Heinz-Steyer-Stadium. This modern venue, set in the heart of Dresden, provides the perfect setting for an exciting and dynamic competition.
Organised with the support of the 1. Squash Club Dresden, the tournament will feature men’s, women’s, and junior events across different age groups. All matches will follow the best-of-five format, with games played to 11 points using the PAR scoring system. With its fast-paced rallies and high-intensity action, squash at WTG2025 will be a thrilling spectacle for both players and spectators alike.
