US Squash has launched its Player Development Pathway ahead of squash’s debut as an Olympic event at the LA28 Olympic Games.

The initiative has been designed to support players in the US ahead of the Olympics by providing them with the training, coaching, and competitive opportunities needed to maximise their potential.

The pathway is designed to foster long-term athlete development by incorporating age-appropriate training and competition to minimise burnout, injuries, and early dropout. By offering clear opportunities for progression, US Squash inspires more players to stay engaged, whether they aspire to compete professionally or remain lifelong players.

“At the core of our Player Development Pathway is a strong grassroots foundation that introduces young players to the sport, develops fundamental skills and fosters a lifelong passion for squash,” said Kim Clearkin, Chief Program Officer at US Squash.

“By investing in community-based programs, junior leagues and school partnerships, we are expanding access to the sport and ensuring that every promising player has the opportunity to reach their full potential.”

Team USA as runners up at the World Team Championships 2024

The National Squash Academy (NSA) will serve as the centrepiece of the Player Development Pathway, providing a structured system to support athletes from the junior ranks through to professional squash. Housed at the state-of-the-art Arlen Specter US Squash Center, the NSA offers world-class training and exposure to high-level competition.

The academy is divided into seven key programs to support the pathway’s overall goal of supporting players to maximise their potential whilst offering direct support to elite athletes representing Team USA.

“The Olympic dream is now a reality for all squash players around the world, and establishing the National Squash Academy is the first step for all American squash players to realise their Olympic dreams,” said Nick Taylor, the Ganek Family US Squash Head National Coach.

“The NSA expands our existing player development pathway with additional structure and support every step of the way from picking up a racket for the first time, to putting on a Team USA jersey for the first time.

“We want every player in the country to see themselves on the podium in LA28 and know exactly how they can make that dream a reality.”
